Asia Index Private Limited launches S&P BSE Private Banks Index



Mumbai, September 4, 2018 – Asia Index Private Limited, a joint venture between S&P Dow Jones Indices and BSE Ltd today announced the launch of the S&P BSE Private Banks Index which is designed to measure the performance of banks that are not classified as Public Sector Undertaking (non-PSU).

The S&P BSE Private Banks Index is designed to provide market participants with a transparent and rules-based benchmark that measures the performance of private banks listed in India.”

The index universe is drawn from the constituents of the S&P BSE Finance Index. Only common stocks classified as Banks by the BSE Sector Classification model and that are not classified under the BSE Scrip category as a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) are eligible. Each stock also must satisfy the liquidity requirement as defined in the index methodology in order to be eligible for inclusion.

Constituents are weighted by float-adjusted market capitalization, subject to an individual stock weight cap of 22.5% applied at each semi-annual rebalancing, in March and September. Additionally, constituents that individually weigh NOT greater than 4.5% should cumulatively weigh NOT less than 16.5%. The index is calculated in Indian Rupees and US Dollar. The index is calculated real-time by BSE.
