REJOINDER

BSE SENSEX to remain intact

This is with reference to a front page story titled "New BSE Index" in April' in the Business Standard of September 25, 2000. The wording of the story, especially the headline, can be misconstrued to imply that SENSEX is being replaced.

It has caused some degree of confusion amongst the market participants and BSE finds it essential to emphasize that SENSEX remains intact and there are no plans whatsoever to replace it. It will be heretical to even imagine that SENSEX, the most popular Stock Index in India and possessing such a strong brand recognition, will ever be tampered with, The new index being talked about, is strictly a sectoral index and if and when finalized will only be one of the additions to the family of BSE indices

There is no plan to introduce any derivatives on an index other than sensex at present.
