BSE completes 100 Investor Awareness Programmes in 2002-03 On January 17, 2003 the Stock Exchange, Mumbai (BSE) completed its 100th Investor Awareness Programme at Jhunjhunun in Rajashthan coinciding with the Securities Market Awareness Campaign inaugurated by Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The programmes were conducted in 12 states at the following places:
The Exchange has covered 13,649 investors through these programmes. Further, the Exchange has received and processed 324 complaints from investors at these centers. Several publications such as Guide For Investors, FAQs on Debt Markets / Derivatives (Futures & Options) etc. were distributed at these programmes free of cost. While touring these states, the BSE teams visited several bank branches and distributed leaflets on "Guide For Investors". In addition to the above, Investor Awareness Programmes were organised in various Colleges and Management Institutes in some of the states covered during the visit. Further such programmes are being scheduled in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Bihar and Jammu and Kashmir. The Exchange has also organised/participated in several finance exhibitions through which it aims to spread investor education. The Exchange had also distributed Guide for investors to professionals such as Company Secretaries and Chartered Accountants who may be guiding investors. The Exchange has carried out extensive campaign in print media on "Safe investing in Stock Market" through 180 inserts covering 31 newspapers including regional dailies and magazines. The Exchange has also carried out extensive advertisement campaigns for investor education through CNBC for last three months. Currently, Zee TV is telecasting Investor Awareness Campaign series. These initiatives have been carried out under the aegis of BSE Investor Protection Fund. The BSE Training Institute (BTI) offers 22 programmes currently. More than 15,000 participants have been trained through various courses like comprehensive program on Capital Markets, Fundamental Analysis, Technical Analysis, Derivatives, Futures and Options et al. Further, for the Derivatives market BSE also conducts the compulsory BSE Certification for Derivatives Exchange (BCDE) for members and their dealers to impart basic minimum knowledge of the derivatives markets. BSE's official website www.bseindia.com is the focal point for information dissemination and updates investors with the latest information on stock markets on a daily basis through real time updation of statistical data on market activity, corporate information and results. BSE regularly comes out with publications for Investor education on various products and processes including a "Quick Reference Guide for Investors" amongst others. In a significant move to expand its investor services nationwide, on September 2, 2002 BSE opened centres for investor services in New Delhi and Cochin. BSE is planning to open more such Investor Service Centres in Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Calcutta. This initiative marks a major development in expanding the scope and reach of BSE services to investors located in different parts of the country.
