MEDIA RELEASE

BSE has observed that there were wide fluctuations in the prices of various securities / SENSEX, thereby resulting in a halt in the trading activity at the Exchanges today on two occasions as per SEBI prescribed guidelines on Circuit Breakers.

BSE’s surveillance system in conjunction with other departments is completely geared up and competent to handle such extreme market exigencies. BSE’s Risk Management Systems are in accordance with the SEBI mandated guidelines. Therefore, the trading and settlement cycles at BSE will be conducted as per schedule. BSE is also keeping a watch on the market situation, the position of the members and have collected the necessary margins. We have successfully completed the pay-ins and pay-outs today for May 13th, 2004 trades.

BSE does not anticipate any pay-in problems on BSE.

There are very marginal outstanding positions on the derivative segment.
