BSE Back-office Software for Options Trading

Bombay Stock Exchange takes a leap forward by initiating development of the back-office software for trading in Sensex Options. SEBI vide its press release (Ref. No. PR 237/2000) dated December 15, 2000 has recommended the risk containment measure for Exchange traded Options on Indices. BSE has taken the initiative to educate various intermediaries and agencies contributing to success of the product. In this regard, two detailed programs were organized.

The training program was inaugurated by Dr. Sanjiv Mehta, CEO, BSE Derivatives Segment, and speaking on that occasion, he enthused the various representatives to be proactive in developing the back-office software, which is scalable and has the features to operate in a multi-product environment. He also envisaged that it might not be too long before other derivative products are introduced in the Indian market.

While the first program on "Option as a Product" included the Options on Stock / Index/ Index Futures, significance of the Greeks and Options Pricing, the other program on "Margining Software to be used for Options" explained the portfolio based approach, methodology and process adopted in the software program including interface with BSE's Derivatives Trading and Settlement System.

There was overwhelming response from the software vendors who have expressed their gratitude for undertaking such elaborate training program. Both the training programs were attended by representatives from various leading software companies including Tata Infotech, Financial Technologies, Trigyn Technologies and Hitech Software Solutions.
