BSE Successfully Launches "BSE PSU Index"

The Stock Exchange, Mumbai today launched a new Index called "BSE PSU Index" which will track the performance of major PSU stocks listed on the Exchange. The new index consists of 34 major PSUs that are currently part of BSE-500 Index.

The base date for the BSE PSU Index has been fixed at 1st February 1999 and the base value at 1000 points. On the first day of its launch, the BSE PSU Index closed at 1045.15 down by 17.52 points. The market capitalisation of the Index was Rs. 1,09,095 crores at the end of the day.

The BSE PSU Index consists of listed companies/institutions/corporations owned or controlled by the central government within the meaning of Section 619-B of the Companies Act, 1956.
