Data File Round Wise

The data file contains observations of all households. Each household is uniquely identified by an identity number. The first row in the data file contains variable names (column headers). Each row after the first row of the data file consists of observations of one household. Variables in the data file used for the estimation are described below:
  • HH_ID : This is a unique identifier of a household
  • COUNTRY: This specifies the country, in which the household is located.
  • STATE: This corresponds to the states of India, in which the household is located.
  • HR: This corresponds to Homogeneous Region number.
  • TOWN_VILLAGE: Village number in case of rural regions and town number in case of urban regions.
  • REGION_TYPE: This indicates whether the household is in rural or urban regions.
  • SURVEY_STATUS: This is the status of survey for a household whether it was surveyed and 'Accepted' or it was a 'Non-response'.
  • FPC_REGION_TV_HR_REGTYPE: This is the number of towns (surveyed and non-surveyed) in the urban Homogeneous region or the number of villages (surveyed and non-surveyed) in the rural Homogeneous region as per Census 2011, depending whether the REGION_TYPE is urban or rural, respectively.
  • HH_WEIGHT_HR_REGTYPE_SAMPLE: This is the weight attached to each household for round-wise estimations. For urban, it is the ratio of the estimated population of households to the surveyed households in the urban Homogeneous region. For rural, it is the ratio of the estimated population of households to the surveyed households in the rural Homogeneous region.
  • CONSENTI_QUESTION_1_RESPONSE: The household can choose between three
    options-Better, Same, Worse.
  • CONSENTI_QUESTION_2_RESPONSE: The household can choose between three
    options-Better, Same, Worse.
  • CONSENTI_QUESTION_3_RESPONSE: The household can choose between three
options- Good times, uncertain times, Bad times.
  • CONSENTI_QUESTION_4_RESPONSE: The household can choose between three
options-Continuously Good times, Uncertain with ups and down, continuously bad times.
  • CONSENTI_QUESTION_5_RESPONSE: The household can choose between three

    1. GENDER: The gender of the respondent in a household. This is a binary response.

  • NON_RESPONSE_FACTOR_HH_HR_REGTYPE: This is the adjusting factor to take the non-responses in the sample into account. It is the ratio of the sample households in a stratum in the round to the accepted households in that stratum in that round.
Dummy Variables
Each response recorded for each of the five questions in the raw data file is assigned a dummy variable. For each question, the response chosen by the household is assigned a value of 1. The other response then receives a value of 0. These are:
  • QUESTION_No_1_BETTER: The favourable response receives a value of 1 when the household chooses the option-"BETTER". It is denoted as X1.
  • QUESTION_No_1_WORSE: The unfavourable response receives a value of 1 when the household chooses the option-"WORSE". It is denoted as Y1.
  • QUESTION_No_2_BETTER: The favourable response receives a value of 1 when the household chooses the option-"BETTER". It is denoted as X2.
  • QUESTION_No_2_WORSE: The unfavourable response a value of 1 when the household chooses the third option-"WORSE". It is denoted as Y2.
  • QUESTION_No_3_GOOD_TIMES: The favourable response receives a value of 1 when the household chooses the option-"GOOD TIMES". It is denoted as X3.
  • QUESTION_No_3_BAD_TIMES: The unfavourable response a value of 1 when the household chooses the option-"BAD TIMES". It is denoted as Y3.
  • QUESTION_No_4_CONTINUOUSLY_BAD_TIMES: The unfavourable response a value of 1 when the household chooses the option-"CONTINUOUSLY BAD TIMES". It is denoted as X14.
  • QUESTION_No_4_CONTINUOUSLY_BAD_TIMES: The unfavourable response a value of 1 when the household chooses the option-"CONTINUOUSLY BAD TIMES". It is denoted as Y14.
  • QUESTION_No_5_GOOD_TIME: The favourable response receives a value of 1 when the household chooses the option-"GOOD TIME". It is denoted as X15.
  • QUESTION_No_5__BAD_TIME: The unfavourable response a value of 1 when the household chooses the third option-"BAD TIME". It is denoted as Y15.
